Beware of the con-artist! Scammers use the phone, the mail, the internet and even go to door-to-door offering services, telling you you’ve won a contest or a prize, or trying to get you to buy home repair or credit repair services, or make some high tech investments. These fraudulent schemes often include “hot investment opportunities” to get rich quick.

If you have been victimized by an “unfair or deceptive” act, and your efforts to resolve the problem directly with the company involved have been unsuccessful, you may need to file a written consumer complaint with the attorney general’s office or you may need to pursue a private cause of action through Phillips Law Office. Under the New Hampshire Consumer Protection Act (RSA 358-A), you may bring suit and, if you win, your damages include your actual losses, your out-of-pocket losses, or the sum of $1,000.00, whichever is greater. The court may also award two to three times your actual damages and your attorney’s fees and costs.

Roger Phillips is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, a non-profit association of attorneys and consumer advocates committed to representing and protecting consumers’ interests. NACA serves as a voice in the ongoing struggle to curb unfair, abusive, and business practices that adversely affect consumers.

We handle cases on either an hourly basis, or in many litigation matters, on a contingency fee basis, which means we only charge a fee if you win and receive an award of damages. Clients are responsible for expenses and costs which are sometimes advanced by the client or deducted from recovery at verdict or settlement.
